Writing is an art of putting down ideas in symbols or alphabets as a means of sending a message. Writing is one of the four means by which we communicate; others are speaking, listening and reading. Most of what is known in our world today was simply made available to us by those who chose to record them in writings. Look at all the Holy books, history and important records of event, they have been made available to us by writing and record keeping. And writing can be a skill of advantage to anyone who can benefits fully from it.
Listed below are some points to emphasis the power of writing
1. Record keeping: When you write you make records available, these records ensures that you don’t lose vital information. This is why minute are taken in meetings, in order to give one a flash back of events. It is also similar to when a student take notes in class, or jots down important points during a lecture.
2. Vision: Writing when used in planning is a powerful aid in working towards a vision. Writing in the hand of a visionary is the same as a building plan in the hands of a bricklayer. When one writes it enables one to know what is been expected of a plan and what is not. It gives one the advantage of been able to read between the lines. It ensures that details of vision are taking down and helps to keep one focused from distractions during an event. Imagine a wedding event that has no program, all the agenda might be so mixed up that it would surprise both the bride and the groom. But by writing it down it enables them to get a hold of things. A blunt pencil and paper is sharper than the clearest thought.
3. Revision: Another useful benefit of writing is that it serves as a source of revision. Someone said “writing is for vision and revision” Unknown author. Revision means to revisit an idea again. Either for the benefit of replicating it or to make it more effective when planning. It helps to confirm if there is conformity or deviation from an original purpose. Through revision one is able to find the connections between the past, present and future events. Revision takes discipline, humility and diligence to cultivate as an individual but its benefit can be remarkable. When we form the habit of revising knowledge we are in most cases not surprised of new happenings because in a way they relate to the past events.
4. Enhances communication: A Chinese proverb says “ a picture is worth a thousand words”. This means putting down something in the form of pictures or writing save a lot of time when communicating. It also allows one to reach out to a wide audience simultaneously or consecutively. For instance when you print an invitation, send a text message, send an email, you are able to communicate without been present in person, but you are present in mind.
In conclusion the benefits of writing are inexhaustible. We never really mastered anything until we have written it down. When you think you engage only the mind, but when you write you engage the mind, the brain, the muscles the hand and you reach out easily to others and yourself too.
Most people who write down things tend to panic less because the world is crystal clear in their mind.
So you have the idea all you need is a pen, a paper and a little discipline.
